Review: Doctor Who Series 4 Ep. 3: Planet of the Ood

Ood! I do like the Ood, they work so well aesthetically.

Generally, I think this story was good - 'cause to be fair I didn't start questioning the back story of the Ood until we knew there was going to be a story covering this subject.  So, when Donna judged the Doctor for not questioning them, I really took that as a fair point, because I hadn't really too.

Playing on the Ood's telepathy worked well - and I loved the fact that the Doctor could hear it all the time. And Donna's response when she was given a glimpse of it. I also loved the vulnerabilty of the 'normal' Ood - having their brains on the outside. Oh, and Donna's trails of thought being completely different to the Doctor's and then dictating pretty much the whole story.

Doctor-Donna will be passed on through the generations... aaww. And did I catch a mention of the Sense-Sphere (not that I've seen the story concerning it).

I really wanted to hear more about FOTO. I guess that's what we lose for having 45 minute episodes though.

However, faults (as usual, it seems at the moment):

- You'd have to change EVERYTHING. Literally everything to change species. I don't believe a drink can be that potent. To change everything from enzymes to every physical structure would be more likely to kill than to succeed. So... entire change of species... just no.

- The 3 brain thing. I can accept the 'hind' brain being exterior. They're aliens. But a whole 3rd brain that links them together? Erm... right. That just weirded me out. And confused me. And I can't think of any logical explanation of how that actually works. There's also now a dead guy in it. Nice.

- I HATED the claw-chase scene. It seemed so computer gamey. And pointless.

The only reference I heard that was in previous episodes was the bees thing. Anyway...
